If your vision has become progressively cloudy, colors seem faded, or glare from headlights makes night driving difficult, a cataract may be forming.

What is it?

Cataract surgery is a medical procedure I perform to remove your eye's natural lens when it has become cloudy due to age, trauma, or medical conditions, replacing it with a clear artificial lens.

How does it work?

I perform this surgery as a day case under local anaesthesia, taking about 15 minutes. The procedure is generally painless. You may notice bright lights or some pressure during the surgery.

Is this for me?

I will thoroughly examine the density of your cataract and the overall health of your retina and macula. Precise biometry is used to calculate the power of your replacement lens.

This may be suitable for patients experiencing blurry, cloudy, or yellowed vision, or those whose cataracts interfere with daily activities like driving at night.

I may defer surgery if the cataract is very mild and not impacting your quality of life, unless you desire refractive correction at the same time.

Recovery

I will provide a post-operative drop regimen to prevent infection and control inflammation.

Considerations

Cataract surgery is a very common procedure. Rare risks include infection, swelling of the retina (macular edema), or a retinal tear.
